It's true that it is odd for Yamamoto to follow Hibari. He has nothing to earn from doing so, no need for protection or any real connection with him. That familiar presence is soothing to his nerves, though. Yamamoto expects to be pushed away soon, but says nothing, not wanting to earn it prematurely.
