Test Drive Meme: The Overflow, Part Deux!
![]() THE OVERFLOW, PART DEUX! Since the last post is again fast approaching 3k comments and getting laggy for some of our players, we have decided to go ahead and stick up the overflow post, even though there's just a little over a week to game start. Please continue your threads or start new ones here if you'd like. To make this easier on those continuing threads from the last meme, here's a handy form: Please remember to let your thread partners know you've bumped your threads over here as well! We started the meme early to give you plenty of room to do just that. With the City of Ariel grand opening only a month away, we are holding our first ever test drive meme. Tag in and see how your character would settle in the game. You're a fresh face in the city, newly processed, and arriving at a bustling time. The city is expanding and you are greeted first in the re-education center by your helpful counselors and then directed out of the building to a large festival. Be puzzled, make friends, have sex, or whatever you want! There are no restrictions on thread types played out here. Your first awareness that something has gone wrong comes during a groggy moment of semi-lucidity when you look around yourself and find that -- instead of wherever you remember being last -- you're in a chair, in a room with a man you don't recognize. He's sitting behind a desk whistling to himself and sorting paperwork. The whole atmosphere might remind you of a high school guidance counselor's office, only with far more comfortable chairs. You were brought to Ariel during a very special time! There's a large festival going on celebrating the new expansions to the city and everything is decked out for it. Everything is bustling and vibrant in the city today because of the celebrations. There are decorations up, food vendors set up all along the streets, kissing booths, games, and just about anything else you can imagine an event like this would have! The people of Ariel are out and about as well, some are in vibrant costumes and others are just checking out the sights. Some of the more exhibitionist types are even having a little more fun out in public than you may be used to seeing back home. As soon as the grogginess from your arrival passes, you are allowed to leave the re-education center and see it all for yourself. Upon exiting, you are even handed beads of various colors, several of each so you don't worry about running out. Each color has a special meaning listed below: pink - toys These are to aid you in making a connection with others. Show your interest in others and tell them exactly what you would like to do with them by sharing the beads. If you would rather take a different approach, feel free to walk around the festival and see what (or who) catches your eye. The point is to relax and get settled in your new home. | |
TAG IN - Post your character's name, canon, and preferences. - Set up an opener in your comment or leave it blank. - Tag around and have fun! | USEFUL LINKS: [Premise] [Rules] [F.A.Q.] [Locations] [Local Citizens (NPC)] [Taken] [Wanted] [Reserves] [Application] [Main] [Logs] [OOC] |
Please note that all CR in this meme can be carried over when the game starts between characters that are accepted into the game.
Threads can also count towards third and first person samples on the application, just provide links.

A bit early for that assessment, don't you think?
[Turning her head toward him, she gave him an even look but did nothing else. If he thought that was supposed to shock her, well, she had enough shocks in the last month to last her a lifetime.
From finding out her sister was a dreaded l'Cie to becoming one herself to watching her sister become a crystal statue to heck, becoming a monster (literally) before killing a demigod or two.
Yeah, there wasn't too many things that could potentially shock her. At least that's what Lightning liked to think so.]
It's only been a few hours, maybe not even that.
[It was a guess but based on how long it was since her own arrival... it might have just been an hour. Not enough time to know the entire picture but enough to maybe get a generalized idea of the place.]
Mm. I don't know. Maybe I just want a small respite from trouble in general.
[After all, some of that trouble she been through was partly her own fault. Partly, not completely.]

I'm getting the impression that you're not a very good fugitive.
[He had expected that a fugitive would be a little more wary of such a city, regardless of how much time had elapsed...but then again, he also would have expected that a fugitive would keep such a status quiet.]
Suit yourself, then.
[He shrugs. It isn't his loss, after all.]
I prefer to look for trouble, if it means getting answers.
[He starts walking off.]

[ The emotion is obvious, smeared across Mello's features like a child's finger painting across freshly coated white walls of a few-million quid home. There's something between anger and awe, and Sherlock can feel a smirk starting to pull over his lips, despite the inanity of the situation. The movement to his rosary beads is caught, though Sherlock decides to tuck the thought away. Falsely religious for the sake of impressions, or falsely religious to deceive himself? An interesting thought.
When the initial shock is brushed aside in favour of the man scoffing, disregarding what's been said, or at least minimising the impact of Sherlock's words, the detective blinks slowly, lazily, as if disinterested by the man's attempt to deter the situation. He's pleased enough that the blond is impressed, but the detective wasn't looking for reaffirmation of his abilities: he knows he's good. There is a part of him that wishes to respond to the affront on his ego, but then the man says something interesting and Sherlock almost thanks the powers that be for finally throwing something worth his while in his direction.
A beat. ] Hm, odd. For a man unimpressed by my abilities and in possession of his own 'superior' powers of observation, I find it strange you wanted to acquaint yourself at all.
[ And then he straightens, and takes a step forward, intruding on the man's personal space. Unlike the vast majority of the people contained, there is nothing sexual about the gesture, nor threatening. If anything, it's posed as a challenge, as he stares hard into the eyes of his newfound companion and attempts to assert his position, his curiousity because he is oh so very curious indeed. Most of those who've approached him have lost Sherlock's intrest within moments.
But this man is smart. Sharp. Ready. It's a breath of fresh air amongst the constant ennui offered up here. ] You've undoubtably discerned my lack of interest. I'm obviously not in a position of power either. [ Lids drop to half-tilt as Sherlock regards the leather-clad blond with interest, pausing, waiting for silence to filter in between them. The last question Mello posed goes unanswered as Sherlock responds with one of his own: ]
Why did you arrange for this meeting?
[ Not that Sherlock hasn't come to his own conclusions. The man wants answers, he looks hungry. He, like Sherlock, isn't satisfied by just the mental imagery being projected, the carnal acts commencing in every direction. Sherlock doesn't think the man would object to some of those acts, as it's clear between the two of them who's morals are more ambiguous, just by the sheer act of deceit the man has already admitted to. But he does doubt that those distractions are enough to satisfy the craving, the undying need to know what's going on. He's too sharp to be mollified by the promise of endless amounts of sex and pleasure.
Of this much, the consulting detective is certain. He knows that look, because it's like looking into a mirror. A darker, more religious, red-leather-clad mirror with scars. ]

All those inferences, and yet you can't figure out why I set this up?
[Though Mello supposes he does know, and is testing him — trying to see what answer he'll produce, maybe see how well Mello can play, or what move he'll use next. He therefore allows his question to remain rhetorical, choosing to respond properly.]
I thought you might be of some use to me.
[And perhaps he wasn't far-off in that assessment, as he has clearly encountered a man whose abilities might just rival his own. Only time will tell if that is the case, but Mello, too, recognizes the similarities.]
You didn't answer my question. Is it because you're afraid of what I might see in you?
[He's still wearing that grin when he reaches inside his pocket to pull out the only chocolate bar that has managed to come with him to this city, but he doesn't unwrap it. Instead, he holds it up to the other man.]
Tell me...are you an addict?
[They all are — people like them. L allegedly had his sweets, Matt has his video games, and Mello has his chocolate. They may not be standard addictions, but it is the mark of a true gifted individual — at least in Mello's opinion, having grown up around gifted children and witnessed addiction in its myriad forms.
He partially unwraps the chocolate and takes a bite.]

The mere nature of the place is rather baffling. So many people willing and eager to bed one another. He's not used to being around such an environment. Finally he decides that he needs to take a break and walks over to one of the buildings where there aren't too many people and he leans against the wall.
With a sigh, he looks up from his little book of papers he's been taking notes upon and locks eyes with Mello. The simple gaze turns into a stare when his mind is suddenly bombarded by a slew of thoughts. It feels like he's almost in a daze for a handful of seconds. When he snaps out of it, only then does he notice his eyes haven't left the other man.
Quickly he turns his attention from Mello and back to the notebook. Or at least tries to.]
[[ooc: I'm up for anything. CR or smut. There's a kinklist in his journal as well.]]
no subject
Like now.
It's a pretty harmless look, not really lewd, but Mello narrows his eyes in response regardless. He takes advantage of the elapsing time to glance over the man's clothing — though 'uniform' might be a better word — and the notebook in his hand.
The man tries to recover, but Mello decides to stalk over to him rather than ignoring the stare. Granted, if Mello decided to confront every person who attempted to catch his attention in some manner, he'd hardly have time for anything else — but it's the manner of the man's dress and that notebook of his that makes Mello curious. He is, after all, trying to get a sense of who might be useful for him — and someone who seems to be taking notes might just be of some value.
He walks until he's in the other man's space, placing a gloved hand against the building right beside the man's head.]
Is there something on your mind?
[His voice is low, dangerous — a little bit of a threat laced throughout the words.]
I saw you staring. You're pretty bad at playing it cool.
((ooc: Game for whichever! We can see where this takes us :D))

[Oh how utterly embarrassing! He definitely was not expecting to be approached like this. His heartbeat starts to race and to make matters worse, there's an evident blush in his cheeks. Damn that microchip. And it's still not ceasing with those ideas. If anything, the chip is making them even more horrible.
So much for being calm and collected. Back home he was brilliant at it. Receiving years of military training, an aide to a prince, and being the top ranking officer of his country's military in general, well, one has to keep that poker face because they always tend to be faced with stressful situations.
Though here is a different story altogether. He's still taken aback by how people can be so promiscuous and in public no less. He supposes over time he'll get better at dealing with it, but for now, well.]
I apologize profusely, Sir. It was incredibly rude of me. I... I didn't mean to upset you.
[[ooc: sounds great XD ]]
no subject
He ignores the apology.]
What's with the notebook?
[He glances at it, then looks to the crowd behind him, pointing with a gloved finger at two people who are busy fucking each other in public, seemingly without any care.]
Are you writing about that?
no subject
Those people?! No. I'm not taking notes about that... It would be pointless. What I've been writing down are technical observations of this city. One shouldn't wander around aimlessly in a new environment and place their trust into the hands of strangers. The best action to take is to develop a strategy of how to deal with the location after getting to know your surroundings and environment. That's merely my opinion in the matter though.
[He shrugs his shoulders a bit.]
In the military academy, they always taught us not to go into unfamiliar territory without vast knowledge of the location in general and as the commanding officer of the Britannian military, I've taken that to heart. I also have the responsibility of seeing to it that my superior, the second prince of Britannia, doesn't get thrown into harm's way.
[A soft sigh.]
To top it all off, the microchips are quite annoying and if the ones in charge here have the ability to bring so many people to this realm at their will, imbed microchips into their bodies, and influence them to indulge in such... Perversions. Well, I highly doubt their power stops there. I'm sure there's more to everything than meets the eye.
no subject
That's smart. I'm actually doing the same. But I keep my notes here.
[He taps his head.]
It's better that way. No information can be compromised if no one can take it away from me.
[And he, too, has been trained to use his mind and evaluate situations.
He agrees with the assessment about the people in charge. That is his opinion, as well. He doesn't trust this setup and he certainly doesn't trust the people in charge.]
What have you discovered so far? Maybe we can compare notes.
[It is possible that this man has picked up on something that Mello has not, after all.]
no subject
[His voice quiets to almost a whisper, yet loud enough for Mello to hear.]
I say this because the other notes, well, they basically focus on possibilities of disabling the microchips and toning them down. So I'm sure you see why I'm trying to take certain precautions.
no subject
We can go to my place. I can't guarantee that it isn't being monitored by the people in charge, but it's not out in the open. It's the closest we'll get to having privacy.
[And it could buy them time, as the man suggested.
The comment regarding the microchip makes Mello smile. That is exactly the kind of research he wants.]
Perfect. I completely understand.
no subject
He slips the notebook into the pocket of his coat and nods, ready to follow.]
I'll let you take a look over everything once we get there.
no subject
Sit.
[He gestures to the couch. It isn't that he's trying to sound commanding, but Mello is accustomed to giving directions and having them followed, so terseness comes easily. Instead of sitting on the couch as well, he pulls up a chair from the kitchen and sits in it, leaning forward as he speaks.]
This is as private as we'll get for now.
