How's My Driving?

HMD

It's that time finally! Here's our first How's My Driving? post. This sitewide meme will go up on the 20th of every month and it's encouraged that everyone post! Please post a list of your current in-game characters as a reference for other members to use for comments or critique.

Remember to keep it civil. Outright flaming will not be tolerated and we will deal with any hostile comments as soon as possible. Critique should be constructive. Offer ways a player can improve their characters, solve any problems you might have, etc. rather than just telling them they're horrible with no examples or pointers.

Likewise, this isn't a love meme. It's great to tell someone you think they're doing a good job or you love playing with them! Just give reasons for why you think they're awesome or what they're doing well. We're not discouraging positive comments. Love is great, but so is hearing why you are so you know what to keep doing.

Anon comments are enabled and IP logging is off for those who'd prefer a little anonymity, but please don't abuse this feature to be rude to other players.

If anything comes up, please visit the concerns page to let us know or contact us through any of the other various ways listed.

I'm curious as to what you mean, anon. I think I get what you're coming from, in that you're saying my prose descriptions and internal monologue are more descriptive are more interesting that her actual dialogue. But I'm not exactly sure if that's correct. Are you talking about my OOC descriptions of her or my actual in game tags? Also, I'd like an example of a thread or tag you see as particularly bland. Not that I don't believe you or anything, but I feel like I could either improve or adequately explain if I better understood your point.

I mean your OOC descriptions of her vs. how she comes off in play. Looking at her journal, I get the impression that you see her as someone who is expected to be tediously domestic, but who really has a kind of fighter's spirit and a lot of spunk, but I don't see the spunk when you play her. I may be misjudging how you see her, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't have any links handy at the moment, but I'll dig around when I get home and see what I can find.

Actually, she's not expected to be domestic at all. Her father is canonically one of the world's strongest martial artists, and she was raised that way and was a tomboy. She made the domestic image all by herself, because she's obsessed with the idea of being married and having a family and all that. The surprise is that she's that way, given the way she was raised and her temper. Essentially, she's a reverse tsundere, as much as I hate the term. Her default state is sweet and nice and motherly, but she just has an extremely short fuse.

My interpretation of her is that she's someone who's completely content with her life as a housewife, but she's not afraid to kick ass if someone comes in and messes with her and hers.

I'm actually kind of shocked you think she's coming off as not having enough spunk and fighting spirit, as I'd actually been afraid that I'd been playing up the MAD MAD MAD "bitch" angle way too much and people would think that she's only that. I'd appreciate any links you could offer me!

Then it's possible I'm just mistaken. I don't know Dragonball and it's really not my sort of thing, so it may just be a case of personal preference influencing how I read her threads.

Just to clarify: I don't see "MAD MAD MAD bitch" as being equal to having spunk, necessarily. Someone can be mad, mad, mad all the time and still be tedious about it. I think of spunk as more like charisma. I guess what I'm getting at is she seems sort of like a lightswitch to me. She's either mad or kind of quietly submissive and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot in between.

Of course, again, I admit it could just be my sort of character preference showing through.

You do have a point there about her being a light switch, I think. The mad part I'm good with, but I hadn't been wanting to make her quietly submissive at all. I'd been trying to get at "irritated, subdued, and downtrodden" as she's fresh out of re-education, and that I didn't exactly capture it is a bit disheartening though informative. Hopefully, I can improve on that.
