Wammy's is an excellent establishment for many reasons, but it has a number of flaws as well, given how sheltered and insulated it is. The orphanage did little to break the children of their bad habits — encouraged them, even — and so childish indulgences and obsessions had a tendency to follow the children into adulthood.
Still, eating is not a bad idea. It's a good way to blend in with the crowd, to participate in the events without actually participating, so Mello nods in agreement. They can scope out people of interest without calling much attention to themselves, that way.]

Small talk, showing mutual interest, learning more about a person — it comes quite easily to him.
