CITY OF ARIEL: THE TEST DRIVE THE OVERFLOW, PART DEUX! Since the last post is again fast approaching 3k comments and getting laggy for some of our players, we have decided to go ahead and stick up the overflow post, even though there's just a little over a week to game start. Please continue your threads or start new ones here if you'd like. We started the meme early to give you plenty of room to do just that. ◆◆◆◆ With the City of Ariel grand opening only a month away, we are holding our first ever test drive meme. Tag in and see how your character would settle in the game. You're a fresh face in the city, newly processed, and arriving at a bustling time. The city is expanding and you are greeted first in the re-education center by your helpful counselors and then directed out of the building to a large festival. Be puzzled, make friends, have sex, or whatever you want! There are no restrictions on thread types played out here. Your first awareness that something has gone wrong comes during a groggy moment of semi-lucidity when you look around yourself and find that -- instead of wherever you remember being last -- you're in a chair, in a room with a man you don't recognize. He's sitting behind a desk whistling to himself and sorting paperwork. The whole atmosphere might remind you of a high school guidance counselor's office, only with far more comfortable chairs. When your head clears enough to speak and you ask him where you are, he smiles brightly and says, "Welcome to the City of Ariel." You were brought to Ariel during a very special time! There's a large festival going on celebrating the new expansions to the city and everything is decked out for it. Everything is bustling and vibrant in the city today because of the celebrations. There are decorations up, food vendors set up all along the streets, kissing booths, games, and just about anything else you can imagine an event like this would have! The people of Ariel are out and about as well, some are in vibrant costumes and others are just checking out the sights. Some of the more exhibitionist types are even having a little more fun out in public than you may be used to seeing back home. As soon as the grogginess from your arrival passes, you are allowed to leave the re-education center and see it all for yourself. Upon exiting, you are even handed beads of various colors, several of each so you don't worry about running out. Each color has a special meaning listed below: pink - toys blue - oral yellow - watersports green - age play lavender - crossdressing orange - multiples grey - bondage white - hands (mutual masturbation, fingering, handjob) red - blood black - wildcard These are to aid you in making a connection with others. Show your interest in others and tell them exactly what you would like to do with them by sharing the beads. If you would rather take a different approach, feel free to walk around the festival and see what (or who) catches your eye. The point is to relax and get settled in your new home.

[There's a smile that quirks his lips at the comment. Not the first reference to his last name that he'd heard in relation to the rifle or the old western.

He shrugged his shoulders.] Up on your rifles too, huh? No relation though, as far as I know, or I'd have a lot more money to my name.

[Though he clearly doesn't believe that for a moment but the thought is amusing. He's fairly certain there is no bureau, especially considering everyone's broke. Which, is a problem. He's never been without money, even when he'd been a toddler.]

[He gave a snort at that, shaking his head.] I don't know if that's going to help me much here. Doesn't seem like they care much about guns... supposed to be so peaceful here and all, you know?

[Sam has never had a lot of money... unless you counted stolen credit cards and hustled money, but it was never a lot. He wasn't freaking out over that part yet, so long as he could get enough for the necessities.]

Looks like we might just have to work our ways up here.

You sure peace is synonymous with passive-aggressive? I thought they had that changed.

[Because that's all he's feeling, and he used to believe in that vague synonym but these days, not so much.]

Well, it's their version of peace anyway. [All Sam cared was that he'd got to keep at least one weapon. His life had left him a little more than paranoid, especially given the circumstances.]

[Kinda sounds like you're trying to convince yourself, Sam, or maybe that's just him but the alternatives to this are that they're insane and telling the truth, or they're just lying. Because they're manipulative, that's already been established.]

No, not really. [Sam shrugged.] I'm not really buying a word of what this place says, but I don't have any option but to go along with it right now.

[He pauses, thoughtful.] If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is from what I've experienced.

[Too good to be true, and yet he's sitting out. One could draw some conclusions about the state of what he's leaving behind from something like that.]

If it wasn't so creepy, then yeah... probably wouldn't be so bad. [Better than his world at least.

Unfortunately, this place gave him bad vibes. He couldn't enjoy it entirely.]

[There's a glimpse of a better truth. Tony doesn't blame him, he's sceptical too, or he might be out playing like Dean.]

Stick in the mud? Hey, who said I was a stick in the mud? [Contrary to what Dean insisted, Sam knew how to have fun.

When he didn't have a chip implanted in his brain and the thought of never getting home sitting heavy on his shoulders.]

Skeptical is a good word, yeah. I don't trust this place... I'm gonna guess I'm not alone there?

[Tony just shrugs and gives him a look that clearly implies that it'd just been implied. But he's not completely serious, but he can't help but poke some fun at him.]

You'd be right.

[He doesn't trust a thing about this place.]

This isn't a party it's a distraction, or a convenient coincidence. Anyone jumping in probably doesn't have an overwhelming urge to get back where they came from.

Yeah... well, I guess I can't blame some of them for not wanting to go back. [He'd be among them if the mess he'd caused back home hadn't been his own damn fault. He couldn't just walk away from that. The guilt was too heavy on his shoulders.

Not something he was bringing up here though, no way.]

They're trying to distract us with this crap so we don't focus on the kidnapping and the implants. Do they think we're that stupid?

[Clearly he's being kept in the dark about one or several main reasons as to why Sam is sticking to the walls instead of having fun. Consider his curiosity good and peaked. He won't be forgetting about this.]

We're not exactly proving them wrong, as...a collective body.

[So to speak, more than enough of them are proving that, yes. They are stupid. How many newbies have said fuck it to their entire situation, to the implants and everything out of inability to care or as a defence mechanism and have joined in the fun? Too many.]

I guess I can't argue with you there, really. [He could see them now, people who had to be new and running around shamelessly jumping into the festivities. He's not sure what kind of homes they came from or what kind of people they were to adapt so readily to this... He also wasn't sure if he should envy them or not, honestly.]

So, what do you plan to do while we're here anyway? Out of curiosity, you know.

[These festivities aren't entirely unfamiliar to Tony, everything going on here isn't unlike almost every Saturday night he'd had for at least a decade. Drinking, sex, drugs, every bit of depraved behaviour one could come up with, and he'd enjoyed it, but that'd been when he'd been home in his own element and not a victim of abduction.

After Afghanistan, there'd always been a part of him that'd waiting for someone to come after him again, but this? This makes no sense.]

Work towards a way out, and a way back.

Sounds like it might take a long time to do that. [From what they'd been told in orientation anyway, seemed like a one-way ticket here. He hoped that wasn't the case though...]

[Which he doesn't, and Tony knows this, but the little quirk of his lips that he gives Sam says that he's not going to elaborate.

I actually don't... [There's a hint of amusement in return. He has no idea who this guy is or if he's even telling half the truth. He's used to bullshitting and he's used to hearing it in return, not sure if he should trust it or not really.

Research is something I'm great at.

[If that'd been an opening to give Tony space to interject and fill in a few more of the unknowns for him, he's still out of luck. He's already given him the basic run down, and maybe he's not minding this mystery act so much.

It's not every day that he has a conversation with someone who doesn't know who he is.

So that little smirk just stays in place, and his usual air of seemingly knowing something that no one else is in on settles back into place.]

Uh, well, yeah. I'm good at finding some things out anyway, though my usual experience is a little... out of the ordinary. [He wasn't going to spill his guts or give too much away, but by now? He was used to telling little white lies, especially regarding his profession.

Okay, so maybe those weren't always little white lies.]

I do a lot of occult research with my brother. We're working on a book, so it requires a lot of it.

[Well that's a little odd, and strangely specific, but okay. He squints at him a little, almost asks if he really believes in that stuff or not but that's not important.

Especially considering this place already defies everything he'd thought to be true yesterday.]

That'd require...geography, ancient history, linguistics?
