CITY OF ARIEL: THE TEST DRIVE THE OVERFLOW Since the last post is fast approaching 3k comments and getting laggy for some of our players, we have decided to go ahead and stick up the overflow post. We started the meme early to give you plenty of room to do just that. ◆◆◆◆ With the City of Ariel grand opening only a month away, we are holding our first ever test drive meme. Tag in and see how your character would settle in the game. You're a fresh face in the city, newly processed, and arriving at a bustling time. The city is expanding and you are greeted first in the re-education center by your helpful counselors and then directed out of the building to a large festival. Be puzzled, make friends, have sex, or whatever you want! There are no restrictions on thread types played out here. Your first awareness that something has gone wrong comes during a groggy moment of semi-lucidity when you look around yourself and find that -- instead of wherever you remember being last -- you're in a chair, in a room with a man you don't recognize. He's sitting behind a desk whistling to himself and sorting paperwork. The whole atmosphere might remind you of a high school guidance counselor's office, only with far more comfortable chairs. When your head clears enough to speak and you ask him where you are, he smiles brightly and says, "Welcome to the City of Ariel." You were brought to Ariel during a very special time! There's a large festival going on celebrating the new expansions to the city and everything is decked out for it. Everything is bustling and vibrant in the city today because of the celebrations. There are decorations up, food vendors set up all along the streets, kissing booths, games, and just about anything else you can imagine an event like this would have! The people of Ariel are out and about as well, some are in vibrant costumes and others are just checking out the sights. Some of the more exhibitionist types are even having a little more fun out in public than you may be used to seeing back home. As soon as the grogginess from your arrival passes, you are allowed to leave the re-education center and see it all for yourself. Upon exiting, you are even handed beads of various colors, several of each so you don't worry about running out. Each color has a special meaning listed below: pink - toys blue - oral yellow - watersports green - age play lavender - crossdressing orange - multiples grey - bondage white - hands (mutual masturbation, fingering, handjob) red - blood black - wildcard These are to aid you in making a connection with others. Show your interest in others and tell them exactly what you would like to do with them by sharing the beads. If you would rather take a different approach, feel free to walk around the festival and see what (or who) catches your eye. The point is to relax and get settled in your new home.

Doing what on purpose?

[Because, seriously, what are are you even talking about? More importantly, none of the various gems adorning his clothes seem to have suffered any real damage, nor have their settings. The fabric wasn't quite so lucky, but at least nothing seems to have torn or worn through. It'll be a pain to clean, but at least the project will keep his mind off of the rest of this place for a while... the moments he can spare that won't be dedicated to figuring out how to escape it, that is.

The robes are folded in record time (he'd prefer to hang them, but he'll let it go for once) and set aside, the hat half-reached for next before Lelouch notices that his sandwich is apparently already available. That was fast.]

Tea, Setsuna?

[It isn't a complaint; he's merely curious.]

[bursting]

...never mind.

[ Record time, indeed, and Setsuna shows little shame in at least admiring how swiftly his hands work. He's also curious, as they're slender, delicate things, fragile and breakable with the slightest bit of effort, and yet he had claimed to be an emperor—and most emperors did not earn their titles through kind words and diplomacy alone. He'd killed before, he's fairly sure, and yet something about him picturing Lelouch doing the act doesn't click.

The second question startles his thoughts out of their wandering, and he just shrugs. ]

It's considered polite to offer, where I'm from.

[ Where he was from, anyway. Though he'd abandoned most of that particular identity, certain habits died hard. ]

[kingside]

[A form of apology for his treatment earlier? That along with the sandwich, the relocation to a less offensive locale... no, he can't let any of that influence him. Setsuna is still an unknown; Lelouch has to remain on his guard around him.]

Where I'm from as well. Now, I imagine you had something you wished to discuss?

[It would have been more polite to wait until after they'd both had a seat and begun to drink their tea, but there had been nothing but heavy silences between them ever since Setsuna had first released him, so why not stop that trend now? It had been annoying him anyway.]

[bursting]

[ Not exactly, though he doesn't have a problem with it being seen as such. Setsuna just sets the tray carefully on the sheets so as not to spill, takes a cup of tea to his lips as he sits and sips, turning words over carefully in his mind before responding, eyes on the murky brown liquid rather than Lelouch. ]

You need to be more careful here. Clothes like that draw too much attention.

[kingside]

[... Ah. He'd assumed Setsuna would opt for the far more practical choice of the desk as a place for the tray, but all right. He rescues his own cup, testing the temperature (surprisingly drinkable for something just delivered) and takes a few sips, too, settling in across from the other man. If only this damned room had more furniture.]

With so many people in costume? I hadn't thought it would make a difference.

[bursting]

[ The tea is... several degrees warmer than it should be, in all honesty, and rushes straight to his cheeks as a result, but Setsuna pays it little mind. It's good and soothing on his tongue, and that's enough to satisfy him. ]

That's not what I meant.

[ Shaking his head. ]

People don't like being ruled. They'll look at you and assume the worst. That you want to rule them, too. They'll try and hurt you before you get the chance.

[kingside]

[... What, really?]

Isn't that a little far-fetched? I'm not imposing any sort of reign by wearing any particular item of clothing. Yes, this outfit is elaborate, but you were the first to draw the connection between it and ruler. At the very least, you were the most vocal about it.

[bursting]

[ Yes, really. ]

You carry yourself like a king. With pride and arrogance. It's in your step.

[ And pointing at... ]

...your face, as well.

[kingside]

[Instant frown for your efforts. Congratulations.]

What about my face?

[bursting]

[ Ready and waiting to accept his medal, Your Highness. ]

It's also like a king's.

... How, exactly?

[bursting]

Things that are beautiful can also be deceptive.

[kingside]

[Lelouch gives him a flat look.]

I can see you're an expert on the subject.

[bursting]

[ LELOUCH used SARCASM!

It's not very effective... ]

Am I wrong?

[kingside]

[He sighs, setting his tea down for the moment and reaching for the sandwich.]]

No, although your phrasing could use some work. I can't change my face, however.

[bursting]

[ Watching him closely. ]

There's nothing wrong with it.

I know there isn't. I was generally indicating that while I can change my clothes, my face is a different matter.

[And here he'd been starting to think you were intelligent.]

[bursting]

[ He's smart enough to stab a sword in your back, and more perceptive than most. That's about it. ]

If you can't change your face, you're not a very good liar.

[-- Okay, that might actually prompt a smile.]

Facial expression is something else entirely.

[He takes a bite of his sandwich, chewing thoughtfully for a moment or two before swallowing. Not bad, even if he could do better.]

Any other advice for this lowly newcomer?

[ Go order your own magical wall food, then. He's not a servant. ]

[The smile fades a little.]

I was fond of that hat, I'll have you know. You didn't have to impale it.

[ Oh, look. An actual apology. Savor it while you can. ]

[Does "savor" mean "glance away and shrug?" Because that's what Lelouch is doing now, still nibbling away at his sandwich and leaning back just a little because, against all reason, he's starting to almost relax.]

I won't have reason to wear it here. It doesn't matter.

[ Good. Moving right along, then. ]

Is it acceptable to walk around like that in your world?

I'm usually not slammed against the wall for doing so.
